Pera Galinoi is a Minoan settlement in the bay of the same name, between Fodele and Sises, near the Venetian temple of Ag. Antoniou. The settlement had developed in more than one part of the bay. Excavations brought to light imposing buildings that survive at a great height and had at least one floor. Its buildings are built with local schist stones and elaborate masonry.
Monumental staircases, paved floors, column bases, as well as a “purification tank” (worship space) have been preserved. The establishment of the settlement dates back to the early Palaeopalatial period (ca. 1900 BC) and was destroyed by a devastating earthquake at the beginning of the YM IA period (1600-1500 BC). According to the excavators, E. Banou and E. Civilika, the findings that came to light attest to the connections or the dependence of this rich settlement on the powerful centers of the island.
