The Church of Saint John the Theologian in Margarites is located on the southwest side of the settlement. It is a one-room arched building. Originally the temple was larger or was connected to some building, as evidenced by the architectural remains of additions, which surround it, from which remains of an archway have been preserved. Inside the temple, each elongated side is decorated with three blind arched arches. The Sanctuary is separated from the main part of the temple by an impressive stone iconostasis. The main entrance of the temple has a carved door made of porolit. The pictorial program includes the funeral portrait of the priest George Klados, who died in 1383, scenes from the life of St. John the Theologian and various saints among which stands out St. Mother, who is depicted young, beardless, with a wreath and a lamb in her hand. This depiction is particularly common in cattle-breeding areas, such as the Mylopotamos district, where the Saint is the patron saint of flocks. He himself was at first a shepherd and then became an officer.
