The Historical Folklore Museum of the Kyrimaki family in Episkopi, is housed in a newer house of the Kerimidos, next to the Episcopal Palace of Episkopi. It is a complete historical and folklore Museum, with a library and rich archival material. During the Turkish occupation, the Episcopal Palace of the Episcopacy was the residence of the Turkish-Cretan crypto-Christian Kerimides or Kyrimides, who settled in the area and became known as the Tower of the Kerimides. The Tower was demolished by the revolutionaries in 1822, after the failed operation to capture the fortress of Rethymno.
